Peter
Called from his fishing
Just enough faith to leave the ordinary
Perhaps curiosity about the man who called him
Possibly gnawing discontent with life as it was
Maybe an awareness of need
and just enough hope this Man could meet his need
Broken but willing
Lips acknowledged Jesus as God
Then cursed, “I know Him not!”
Forgiven, he whispers reverently
According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again
Witness to the glory of God on the mountain
Prophets, centuries in the grave, reduced to mere words on a page
very much alive
Peter now writes with conviction
We have a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
Eyes that saw the feet of Jesus disappear into the clouds
while promising to return this very same way
could envision the inheritance we anticipate
One that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading
kept in heaven for us
Head that felt the tongue of Spirit’s fire
knew the power that guards us
until the coming day
when like Peter
we are restored
Salvation revealed
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
