I stand, eyes raised, and proclaim
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name
Unable to comprehend true holiness, I profane it
Slapping the designation on anything
In confidence I knock on the door of heaven and declare
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
I mean only when your will lines up with mine
My lips piously whisper
Give us this day our daily bread
My traitorous heart cries
More! I want my bread for a week
for a month
forever
Knees bent in submission, I seek absolution
Forgive me my sins, as I forgive those who sin against me
My rebellious pride screams injustices done to me
there is a trial in the courtroom of my mind
guilty convicts parade past
I sit on the judgement seat
I ask
Lead me not into temptation, deliver me from evil
Quickly I wander off the paths you lead me in
exploring caves of temptation
I ask, I seek, I knock
In all the wrong places
Trying to convince myself
You want to give me the good gifts
You offer the gift of Yourself
Father in Heaven
Teach me to pray!
