Happy Birthday!

Time marches onward, and though I can hardly believe it, this week marks the one year anniversary of A Space for Grace.  I clearly remember the trepidation with which I sat down at my computer, put a bit of my heart onto the screen and clicked “Publish.”  My stomach was anxiously tied up in knots as I contemplated the possibility that people would read my words.  (I also contemplated the possibility that no one would read them, and that also made me anxious!)

Why do I do it?  Well, maybe because I love to tell stories and this venue allows me to do so while giving you the freedom to walk away at any point.  (Win-win situation I’d say.)

Maybe I do it because I have always dreamed of being a writer, and as mid-life looms ever closer, I feel the courage to go for it, despite fear of failure.

Perhaps I write in part to preserve story for those who come after me.  Yes.  Someday my dear children may appreciate what I’ve shared here.  (I’m thinking that before appreciation will come a period of embarrassment.  Fair enough.)

What I did not expect, was the sense of community I would feel with you, the readers, and the doors of communication that would open.  For that, I am profoundly thankful and blessed.  I have been impacted in ways I never expected.  Thank you!

To celebrate this birthday, I thought I would share the top posts from the past year.  Here are your favourites (in no particular order because that is often how I live my life) (to read them again, just click on the title):

Spring Break – in which Rob and I take all four children to Urgent Care during the ‘holiday.’  Oh my word!!!  Spring Break is mere weeks away, and let it be known, I may not survive a repeat this year!

Worth – My firstborn’s Kindergarten Interview.  I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry.  You will be pleased to know all four of my children have been allowed in and still currently attend institutions of learning.

Something’s Rotten in the State of . . . Again, you will be pleased to know that after allowing my firstborn to bring a rotting coyote skull to school for show and tell, all four children are attending places of education.  Also, my firstborn is not undergoing any treatment, but appears to be a well adapted child.  Grace upon grace!

In Which I Fear I Shall Be Raptured From The Bath – When Jesus returns all will be revealed, and it is all grace that I will be clothed in robes of white.

Paris – Part One, Paris – Part Two – I am growing older and wiser.  Slowly.  (Remember the theme of this blog is Grace, right?!)

Running the Race – This ‘race’ is now only three months away; I tremble.

Sins of the Fathers – and on a more serious note, this essay, which was a response to a current news item.

Why do I write?  For all the reasons mentioned above, yes.  But mostly, because life is short.  The time we are given here on this earth will be only a heartbeat in light of eternity.  I write because it is the best way I know how to make much of Him. While we have breath, let’s do this thing!!

For from him and through him and to him are all things.

To him be the glory forever!

Amen
